OCAC Alumni News :: September 2011

Recent MFA Applied Craft and Design graduate Leslie Vigeant is participating in Pacific Northwest Art Program featuring Mike Suri, Leslie Vigeant, Jen Fuller, William Rihel, and Ben Dye. Opening Reception is Thursday, September 16 from 6-8pm at 600 NE Grand Ave in Portland.

Recent MFA Applied Craft and Design graduate Selja Ojanne is showing new work in her exhibition, Games You Live With, at WoonWinkel in Portland. Ojanne explores a more meaningful connection to the toys and games that entertain us.

“Most people store sporting equipment, toys, and games out of sight, but this collection of objects is intended to always be visible, and therefore always remembered and accessible,” says Ojanne. Games hand-made of wool felt, wood, canvas, and leather are not only accessible but are tactile and beautiful enough that you’ll want to keep them out where you can see them. Both familiar and unusual at the same time, some objects like the Soft Blocks have an ambiguous purpose which invite the player to arrange them absent-mindedly into pleasing configurations on the coffee table. Others bring out a competitive nature, such horseshoes, which is played on a colorful, woven rug-like field.

Games You Live With runs August 1 – September 30 at Woonwinkel. 935 SW WASHINGTON in PORTLAND, OREGON 97205. ph: 503-334-2088.
