Headed by MFA student Billy Rueck, the MFA Applied Craft and Design program held an “urban barn raising” event at their studios this past weekend. Brian Libby, writer for the local Portland Architecture blog, featured an article about the event and program at http://chatterbox.typepad.com/portlandarchitecture/. Please check out the great article that is highly complimentary of the program and our students!
Ilene Godofsky, post-bacc student, was accepted into the prestigious Summer Studio Program in Sculpture and Extended Media at Virginia Commonwealth University. Ilene was one of a group of 16 candidates
selected from a pool of 200 + applicants for the 2011 program, and will be departing soon for the East.
MFA Applied Craft and Design student Laura Allcorn was selected to participate in the Human+ exhibit at Science Gallery in Dublin, Ireland. You can watch Laura’s video from the exhibition by clicking the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maMq0etF0VQ
The show explores the future of the human species, with its highlights including a euthanasia rollercoaster, 60 skulls with mechanised eyes which watch your every move, and Laura’s project investigating what would happen if humans needed to pollinate plants instead of bees. Human+ aims to examine the cultural and social impact of new technologies in human development and incorporates the work of artists, biologists, roboticists, architects and philosophers. The result is a combination of art installations, science and technology experiments, participatory experiences, lab settings and historical artifacts.
