Working Artists Studio Space

Working Artists, Portland's only arts business incubator [with a social agenda] offers studio space, business development courses and programming, emerging artists gallery, the Working Artists Network [access to adequate and affordable health care options, event insurance, professional discounts on business services, discounts on office and art supplies, access to micro loans from $500 to $50,000, and so much more], all rolled into your monthly rent. Details about the NW Industrial Portland spaces are below... There are a couple of options in terms of studio space:

1) 220+ sq. ft. private studio, semi soundproof, on the western side of the 3rd floor, Dubbed the VAULT it is perfect for sound engineering, or just a quiet space to paint, write, compose, etc. Currently occupied by a digital art photographer who loves it but must give it up. Comes with all the bennies of a regular Working Artists Studios tenant membership. This space rents for $395/month. This is one of our largest spaces and could accommodate two artists/creative workers (if you wanted to share the space).

2) 182+ sq. ft. private studio, on the southern side of the 3rd floor. Great for an illustrator, graphic designer, visual artist, etc. Currently occupied by a two-person team who loves it but have outgrown the space AND our incubation services! Comes with all the bennies of a regular Working Artists Studios tenant membership. This space rents for $355/month. This is one of our nicest spaces and could accommodate two artists or creative workers (if you wanted to share the space).

3) MAIN FLOOR studio or creative office space, 182 sq. ft. morning sunlight from two warehouse windows, private office with locking door, hardwired DSL (1.5 Mbps upload and download). You become part of a network of professionals artists and creative workers - small design firm, painters/mixed media artists, political cartoonist/satirical writer, dance, photographers. $355/month. *Here's the special deal with these spaces - you are joining an arts business incubator, and you become a tenant member. The rent includes the utilities, liability insurance coverage, inclusion in 2 group shows a year, and several opportunities for exhibits/events/performances outside the studios throughout your tenancy. You receive the Working Artists Network membership at no extra cost (a $189/year savings) which gives you access to reasonable and affordable healthcare insurance, event insurance, discounts on supplies, car rentals, services, books, etc., $95 off the Guerilla Exhibitor a course for artists and creative professionals serious about business, access to micro loans for higher risk business (such as being an artist) from $500 to $50,000 through one of our strategic partners, free quarterly business training days, and more. Working Artists LLC is a social entrepreneurial organization, meaning that in addition to being committed to creating profitable businesses in the arts for ourselves, we also believe in giving back to the community through the arts. Although you are not required to participate in any of our current outreach programs (we realize many of the artists who join us are already donating their time, art and energy to non-profits and social issues), we strongly encourage you to consider participating in one of our outreach events as part of the studio group. Ugallery: A Curated Online Art Gallery

Ugallery is a curated online art gallery solely for collegiate artists and recent graduates. Wecurrently represent 140 artists from 70 colleges and universities around the country. Our goal is to help trained emerging artists launch their careers. It is free for artists to sign up and exhibit their work.Check out the gallery at: www.Ugallery.com We opened in October 2006 and have been featured in a number of major publications including American Artist Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Post. In addition to our online presence, we also showcase artists' work at the leading emerging art fairs in the country. We work extremely hard to promote our artists. All artwork on the site is juried. Ugallery receives a 50% commission on the sale of artwork. And we pay for and arrange the packaging and shipping of artwork when it is sold.

New Art and Social Practices Program at PSU

There is a new Social Practice program through the Art Dept at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. We are offering both undergrad Social Practice classes, and an emphasis in Art and Social Practice within the MFA in Contemporary Art Practice program. This first year there are eight Social Practice MFA students. We are are bringing in a new faculty person, Jen Delos Reyes, and hope to add another six or seven MFA students next year.
